Odds say Lions are big favorite to land Saleh as head coach

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is one of the hottest names on the head-coaching market, and likely will be hired very shortly at one of the six places with current openings.

The 41-year-old Saleh already has interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons, and finished his interview with the Detroit Lions on Thursday. He reportedly will interview with the New York Jets on Friday, and the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers also have requested permission to interview him.

So you know what that means … time to look at the odds on where Saleh will end up.

The odds, brought to you by our partners, PointsBet, show the Lions as the prohibitive favorites for Saleh to be their head coach at -200 odds (a $200 bet would win you $100).

The Falcons are next highest, at +500 (a $100 bet would win you $500). That's followed by the Jets and Chargers at +1000 each.

It appears to be a matter of "when" rather than "if" Saleh becomes an NFL head coach, as he’s highly respected by his players and coaching staff. If he does leave the 49ers to go to another team, Shanahan explained he “set the bar very low” with how many assistants Saleh could take with him as part of his new staff.

It will be a big loss for the 49ers to lose a defensive mind like Saleh’s, but he surely has a bright future as head coach of whatever franchise hires him.
