The 49ers are working toward a new contract for defensive lineman Tony Jerod-Eddie. who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent, a source told CSNBayArea.com.

The free-agent signing period opens Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Jerod-Eddie was not included on Tuesday when the 49ers announced qualifying offers to restricted and exclusive-rights free agents Michael Wilhoite and guard Jordan Devey. The 49ers are making progress toward a new deal to prevent Jerod-Eddie from becoming a restricted free agent.

The 49ers apparently did not deem Jerod-Eddie worth the $1.671 million minimum qualifying offer for a restricted free agent. Therefore, the 49ers hope to bring Jerod-Eddie back at a lower price.

The 49ers have worked out multi-year contract extensions for two other defensive lineman within the past two weeks.

The 49ers reached a five-year contract agreement with nose tackle Ian Williams early Wednesday morning, according to a source. The 49ers also recently signed defensive lineman Quinton Dial to a new deal through the 2019 season.

Jerod-Eddie appeared in 47 games the past three seasons as a rotational player on the defensive line. He started two games apiece in 2013 and ’14. Jerod-Eddie was credited with 24 tackles last season.
