The 49ers want John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan to run the show in Santa Clara for a very long time. That was further evident Wednesday.
NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco confirmed the news that general manager John Lynch has agreed to a new contract extension with the 49ers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported Lynch's new contract extension runs through the 2024 season.
Shanahan recently signed a new six-year contract that keeps him the 49ers' head coach through the 2025 season.
Lynch was a bit of an out-of-the-box hire by the 49ers back in January 2017. San Francisco was coming off multiple disappointing seasons, and Lynch was a TV analyst at the time of his hiring. He didn't have any prior front office experience.

His football knowledge, however, is vast. The former Stanford alum spent 15 years in the NFL as a star safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos. He was a two-time All-Pro, won a Super Bowl and was selected to the Pro Bowl nine times.
Since taking over as GM, Lynch has drafted multiple stars for the 49ers, found his franchise quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo and already reached a Super Bowl. It doesn't get much better than that, and ownership clearly believes Lynch will lead them to even greener pastures.
