Watch epic overtime finish of 49ers-Patriots simulation in Madden 20

Week 7 of the NFL season will include one of the most high-profile matchups of the season, as 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will return to New England to face his former team for the first time. The Niners are scheduled to play the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Week 7 on Oct. 25.

The folks over at NFL Media have decided to use the Madden 20 video game to simulate the 2020 season. When it came to that midseason showdown in Foxborough, the game lived up to the hype in simulated form.

A Robbie Gould field goal tied the game at 17 with less than 10 seconds remaining, forcing overtime in the northeast.

The 49ers’ offense marched down the field after getting the ball first, and a Raheem Mostert carry eventually set the offense up with a first and goal. After a completion to Kyle Juszczyk, Garoppolo found Trent Taylor in the back of the end zone, who makes an impressive (and unnecessary) one-handed catch. It was Taylor's second touchdown catch of the game.

Is this a sign of things to come this fall?

Whether there are spectators or not, 49ers-Patriots is one of the most anticipated games of the NFL season.

Interestingly enough, the simulation has the 49ers coming out of the game with just a 4-3 record. Winning only four of the Niners’ first seven games isn’t something many experts around the league see happening.

For 49ers fans, hopefully the win over the Patriots is a preview but the overall record through seven games is not.
