Why 49ers fans should watch Packers vs. Bears on Thursday Night Football

The 2019 NFL regular season kicks off Thursday night with one of the best rivalries in football. In the Windy City, the Bears and Packers begin their battle for NFC North supremacy.

Whether on the West Coast or anywhere else, 49ers fans should be locked into the season opener.

While the 49ers don't face Khalil Mack and the Bears this season, they still can take notes on how Chicago's imposing defense disrupts Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh should be paying close attention.

When San Francisco faces Green Bay, it comes at a critical time of the season. The Packers visit the 49ers at Levi's Stadium in Week 12, kicking off a crazy stretch for the Red and Gold.

Starting with their matchup against the Packers, the 49ers face six straight playoff hopefuls -- Packers, Ravens, Saints, Falcons, Rams and Seahawks -- to end the regular season.

Prior to playing the Packers, the 49ers will have gone up against softer opponents in the Cardinals twice, the Buccaneers, Bengals and Washington. They have to start the season strong before Rodgers and the Packers come to town.

The 49ers should have their matchup with the Packers circled on the schedule right now. How will Rodgers look in his first season with coach Matt LaFleur? That's the question the 49ers should pay attention to for weeks to come.

Here's how to watch the Packers vs. Bears season opener.
