Winning teacher to receive $20,000 for their school

 

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – April 25, 2021 – NBC Sports Bay Area and Provident Credit Union today announced the four finalists for the 2021 All-Star Teacher Award. Since 2007, the All-Star Teacher Award has recognized middle and high school teachers in Northern and Central California for their extraordinary dedication to their students in school and in the community. This is the tenth year NBC Sports Bay Area has teamed up with Provident Credit Union to award the winning teacher’s school $20,000, up from $10,000 in past years.

This year’s four finalists are:

  • Danielle Anderson – Francisco Middle School (San Francisco)
  • Carolyn Delfino – Fremont High School (Oakland) 
  • Tomokazu Morikawa – George Washington High School (San Francisco)
  • Nina Portugal – formerly at Life Academy (Oakland)

To learn more about each of this year’s finalists and to vote visit NBCSportsBayArea.com/AST through June 18. The winner will be announced on Friday, July 9 prior to the San Francisco Giants/ Nationals game at Oracle Park.

Finalists were selected based the criteria of four categories: overall commitment; excellence in teaching; rapport with students; and level of distinction. This year’s panel of judges consisted of leaders in the community including Benito Delgado-Olson, Executive Director and Founder, SupplyBank.org; John Haggarty, VP Marketing of Provident Credit Union; Lorena Hernandez, Director of Community Investment, Comcast California; Detra Paige, Director, Alumni & Family Relations, Oakland Athletics; and Sue Petersen, Executive Director of the Giants Community Fund.

The winner of the 2019 All-Star Teacher Award, Katie Humann, won $20,000 for Adams Middle School in Brentwood, CA.
