A's AL MVP finalist Marcus Semien doesn't win shortstop Silver Slugger

It's MLB award season for those of you who observe.

Marcus Semien is an AL MVP finalist but managed to be left off of Silver Slugger Award honors.

The winners were announced on MLB Network on Thursday night:

The AL recipient at shortstop was Boston's Xander Bogaerts, who finished his 2019 All-Star campaign with a .309/.384/.555 line with 33 home runs and a .939 OPS.

There's no denying Bogaerts had great numbers and he was deserving of the award.

We could compare and contrast all day, but to be shutout of the Silver Slugger award (and an All-Star selection) but be an MVP finalist is unusual. However, we can't necessarily say Semien was snubbed.

The A's shortstop put up solid numbers with a .285/.369/.522 line with an .892 OPS and also 33 homers and led the league in games played and plate appearances.

The MVP announcement will occur on Nov. 14. With Angels star centerfielder Mike Trout and Astros third baseman Alex Bregman also up for the award, Semien might go home empty-handed.

That means the "Awards" section across his Baseball Reference page will be left empty and a stellar season will get almost no recognition.
