Another strong night for Ramón Laureano has him on aim to make history

There's a guy named Ramón Laureano roaming the outfield for the A's. He's also dominating at the plate.

If you haven't heard of him, well, it's time to listen up.

Heading into Friday night's game, Laureano led all MLB outfielders with three assists. He also had 12 assists in 57 games as an outfielder dating back to his big league debut in 2018. That's more than twice as many as any other outfielder in the majors over that span.

Despite the 3-2 loss to the Astros, Laureano is on his way to making history.

The 24-year-old can become the first outfielder with 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and 20 outfield assists in a single season since Alfonso Soriano did it in 2006.  It's important to note that no player has ever gone 25-25-25.

Yeah -- Soriano played 1,053 games in left field. (Thanks to Ryan Spaeder for that nugget).

Oh, and Laureano went 4-for-4 with two RBIs in Houston on Friday. Those four hits were a career-high.

Bob Melvin is aware of how much the young outfielder is making an impact on the Green and Gold.

"He had a nice day and sometimes all it takes is a day like this to get going," manager Bob Melvin told reporters after the game.

Of course he did.
