One former Athletics fan favorite announced his retirement from MLB on Saturday.
Outfielder Josh Reddick, who played with Oakland for four-plus seasons from 2012 to 2016, announced his retirement from the league in a post on Instagram.
"Thank you to the Oakland A's for giving me the opportunity to prove that I was an everyday big leaguer," Reddick wrote. "I had so many great years with some great teams.
"I will never forget 2012, Game 162. It was one of my favorite memories of my career. Oakland became a home for me so fast. You fans made it so easy to be myself in a place so far from home and I believe that made me a better player! To me RF crew: Love y'all!"
Traded from the Boston Red Sox to the A's in December 2011, Reddick hit .257/.321/.440 with 84 home runs and 300 RBI across 596 games in the green and gold.
Oakland Athletics
Reddick's best season with Oakland came in 2012, where he hit 32 homers, knocked in 85 RBI, finished 16th in AL MVP voting and won a Gold Glove Award.
Primarily a right fielder and designated hitter with the A's, Reddick quickly became a fan favorite in Oakland and was embraced by the rowdy Bleacher Creatures in right field.

After his tenure with the A's and subsequent trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers midway through the 2016 season, Reddick signed a four-year, $52 million contract with the Houston Astros prior to the 2017 season, immediately winning a World Series with the A's AL West rival.
