A's select Ryan Noda, Joelvis Del Rosario in Rule 5 Draft

The Athletics are in the middle of a rebuild, and as a result, the organization can take a risk by giving players a chance to prove themselves and perhaps find a gem while waiting for top prospects to develop.

Oakland continued this trend in MLB's Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday after the team announced it had selected first baseman Ryan Noda from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As a result, the A's added additional depth to a position that primarily was locked down by Dermis Garcia and Seth Brown last season.

Noda hit .259 with 25 home runs, 90 RBI, and 20 stolen bases with Oklahoma City last season and likely will have a shot to make the A's 26-man roster. The 26-year-old arrived to the Dodgers from the Toronto Blue Jays as a player-to-be-named-later in the Ross Stripling trade.

Throughout the 26-year-old's minor league career, Noda hit .264 with a .407 on-base percentage, 94 home runs, 361 RBI, and 58 stolen bases in 555 games playing as a first baseman and outfielder.

In addition to Noda, the A's also selected 21-year-old Joelvis Del Rosario from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-handed pitcher was 12-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 51 career games in the Pirates organization.

Adding these two players comes on the heels of the A's landing the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and reportedly signing versatile infielder Aledmys Díaz to a two-year contract
