A's big betting underdogs against Yankees in AL Wild Card Game

The A's aren't supposed to be here.

Oakland lost 87 games last season, 93 the year before, and 94 in 2015. But in 2018, with the lowest payroll in baseball to start the season, the 97-win A's are in the American League Wild Card Game with a chance to take down the mighty Yankees in the Bronx.

Vegas, however, isn't playing into the A's Cinderella story. The A's (+170) are big underdogs tonight against the Yankees (-180).

“I think it helps that a lot of people have counted us out because it has given us that little chip on our shoulder,” Liam Hendricks, who will start the Wild Card Game for the A's, said Tuesday to reporters.

The A's and Yankees were wildly even this season in the six games the two faced off in. Each team won three games, but the A's lost two of their three games at Yankee Stadium. The A's did outscore the Yankees though, 33-28.

In the final month of season, the A's were the slightly hotter team at 16-10 compared to 15-12 and hope to keep that going into the New York night.
