Murray, Cardinals GM react to contract comparison with A's payroll

Not only is Kyler Murray being paid a lot of money to be the starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, but he's making more than the total team payroll of the MLB organization that drafted him.

After Murray signed his eye-popping five-year, $230.5 million contract extension with Arizona on Thursday, some began to compare his average annual salary of $46.1 million with the Cardinals to the Athletics' total team payroll of $48.5 million in 2022.

At a press conference on Friday, Murray was asked if the extension finally puts to rest any speculation that he might want to return to baseball one day. After Murray laughed off the question, Cardinals GM Steve Keim chimed in with a valid point.

“Did you guys see the payroll of the Oakland A’s vs. Kyler’s contract? Enough said,” Keim said.

The comment got a chuckle out of Murray, who reiterated that playing football for the Cardinals is where he wants to be.

It certainly appears that choosing the NFL was the right choice for the 24-year-old who now is guaranteed $160 million with his new contract.
