Everyone watching the first game of the Athletics-Detroit Tigers doubleheader on Tuesday was holding their breath after a scary collision between A's left fielder Chad Pinder and shortstop Elvis Andrus.
On a flare to left field off the bat of Tigers shortstop Willi Castro in the top of the fifth inning, both Pinder and Andrus were sprinting to try to catch it. As Pinder dove for it, his head collided with Andrus' knee.

Both players stayed on the ground for several minutes as they were attended to by teammates and trainers. Remarkably, both Pinder and Andrus stayed in the game.
The score was tied 0-0 at the time of the collision, but the Tigers rallied after the play to take a 2-0 lead during the fifth. Detroit went on to win 6-0, but A's manager Mark Kotsay said after the game that he's hopeful there are no significant injuries to either player.
The A's served as the home team in Game 1 of this doubleheader at Comerica Park, making up for one of the games lost from the first week of the season due to the MLB lockout.
