A's take important step for new ballpark, unveil renderings

The A's released the newest renderings of their plans for a waterfront ballpark in Oakland, and they are stunning to say the least.

The latest designs come as the organization announced Friday that the City of Oakland had released its Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on the project, marking another important step on the path to eventually making the Howard Terminal site the new home of the A's.

The A's plan to create more than 18 acres of new waterfront parks with public access, along with improving the city's resilience against rising sea levels.

An emphasis on public transportation is a key part of Friday's announcement, as the team looks to reduce car trips by 20 percent, and invest in numerous transit options.

Improving air quality and greenhouse gas emissions also was highlighted by the EIR, and solar options will be explored as part of the plans.

Finally, there is hope to build 3,000 homes in a city-designated "Priority Development Area," with a certain number allocated for affordable housing.

This is the third rendering the team has released publicly in the past few years, and as NBC Sports California's Brodie Brazil shared on Twitter, the latest images show more of a round design than we've seen in past versions.

This move to Howard Terminal has been a massive undertaking for the organization, and while there still are plenty of steps to go before ground can be broken, this certainly is a positive development in that process.
