A's knock off White Sox, advance to face Astros in ALDS

The A's finally got over the wild-card hump and will take on the rival Houston Astros in the American League Division Series next week.

After losing in the single-elimination wild-card game each of the last two years, the A's held off the Chicago White Sox, 6-4, in Game 3 of their best-of-three series Thursday at the Oakland Coliseum.

The A's fell behind the White Sox 3-0 in the winner-take-all game, but rallied and took the lead on a two-run single by Chad Pinder in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The A's used a total of eight pitchers to close out the White Sox. After dropping the series-opener, the A's scrapped and clawed their way to two wins in games they had to have.

Now, the A's will get a chance to take down the Astros in a best-of-five series that begins Monday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

The two teams brawled earlier this season in Oakland after Ramon Laureano was hit multiple times in a series.

The A's are trying to get to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2006, while the Astros want to prove that their success wasn't a product of the sign-stealing scandal that was uncovered over the offseason. The winner of this series will take on the winner of the other ALDS between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.

Grab your popcorn. It should be a good series.
