A's end dubious elimination game streak in Wild Card win

A dubious streak for the A’s finally came to an end on Thursday.

Oakland won its first playoff elimination game since Game 7 of the 1973 World Series, ending a nine-game losing streak in such elimination games.

The A’s fell behind 3-0 early, but a monster home run from catcher Sean Murphy and some command issues for the Chicago White Sox pitching staff helped the A’s climb back and secure the 6-4 victory, advancing to the ALDS, where the rival Houston Astros await.

After a 5-1 loss in the 2019 Wild Card Game to the Tampa Bay Rays, Liam Hendriks, the man who got the deciding save in Thursday’s win, spoke about the streak being extended to nine games.

Almost exactly a year later, the streak is no more for the A’s.
