Zobrist homers in first at-bat
Ben Zobrist hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat as a member of the A's. He took Yovani Gallardo deep to right on a 1-0 count in the first inning.
Davis helps add on to lead
Ike Davis walked on a full count to start the rally for the A's in the fourth inning. He moved over to third on a Stephen Vogt double and was knocked in with a Marcus Semien single to give the A's a 3-0 lead.
Vogt scores on wild pitch
Stephen Vogt scored on Gallardo's wild pitch and the A's picked up a 4-0 lead after four innings.
The A's blew the game open in the seventh inning thanks to a three-run homer from Stephen Vogt. Vogt worked a full count against Phil Klein and then belted one to right to put the A's up 7-0.
Butler knocks in final run
Billy Butler doubled to left in the eighth inning off of Roman Mendez and knocked in Eric Sogard to give the A's an 8-0 lead.
Gray shines in eight innings
Sonny Gray pitched eight innings in his season debut and flirted with a no-hitter. The right-hander gave up his first hit to Ryan Rua with no outs in the eighth. Gray allowed one hit, struck out three, walked one and snapped the A's 10-game losing streak on Opening Day.
