A's GM David Forst: ‘still an opportunity' for Mike Fiers in Oakland

There is perhaps some good news coming from the A's. Well, we should call this "hopeful news."

It appears the team is still in contact with free agent pitcher Mike Fiers.

A's GM David Forst stopped by MLB Network Wednesday for a phone interview and the subject of the righty, who had successful numbers for the team in 2018, was brought up:

That is not the worst news ... right? The conversation is still open and, as Forst says, the door does not appear to be closed on a possible future with Fiers.

And we can all agree, including the A's themselves, the team really needs starting pitching.

When Fiers was non-tendered at the deadline, it was a bit of a shock, like NBC Sports California's Ben Ross reported.

He was the A's No. 1 starter last season and was super successful coming from the Tigers boasting a 3.74 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 53 innings. He was thriving with the green and gold.

It's no surprise there was a money "issue" and MLB Now host Brian Kenny even asked if the financial aspect was a part of it.

It was.

Which is the theme of the A's thus far -- and for the most part always has been.

Let's hope there are open conversations being made and the A's can offer him something he's worth.
