Jesús Luzardo's first playoff start didn't go as planned. The 22-year-old A's rookie lasted just 3 1/3 innings Tuesday before being knocked out by the Chicago White Sox in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series in Oakland.
Luzardo allowed three earned runs off two homers before handing the ball over to manager Bob Melvin. He also struck out five batters and allowed six hits in his short start.

The White Sox entered Monday a perfect 14-0 against left-handed starting pitchers. Still, Melvin put his trust in Luzardo. The young lefty has the stuff of an ace and his manager believed he would be able to slow down Chicago's deep lineup.
That didn't happen.

Right-hander J.B. Wendelken replaced Luzardo in the fourth inning and finished the top half of the inning unscathed.
