Reddick snaps bat, Hendriks roars after tense confrontation

HercuLiam was in full force on Wednesday.

With two on and two out in the eighth inning of Game 3 of the American League Division Series, A’s reliever Liam Hendriks struck out Houston Astros outfielder Josh Reddick.

The two had quite opposite, and fitting, reactions after the A's were able to hold on to their 9-7 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish.

Even without fans, you could feel the energy of Hendriks' roar and Reddick's dismay.

This came on the heels of a bit of a controversial catcher’s interference call by A's Sean Murphy, which ignited the Astros' rally.

After the game, A's manager Bob Melvin said he wasn't sure if there actually was interference, or if the umpire possibly was influenced by Kyle Tucker, who was at the plate at the time.

"I don't know," Melvin said. "We didn't have it, I'm not sure if he called it right away or Tucker influenced him, we thought it was a foul tip -- it's kind of what we heard. I don't think Murph felt like his glove was hit."

It's hard to tell if there was any interference based on the replays.

Given the stakes of the elimination game, you can understand why Hendriks -- and Reddick -- reacted the way they did.
