Reliever Liam Hendriks will walk away as the A’s lone member of the 2020 All-MLB team, where he earned First Team honors.
Hendriks had a sparkling 1.78 ERA and his 0.67 WHIP led all AL relievers as he became arguably the best closer in the game in 2020.
Hendriks also earned Mariano Rivera AL Reliever of the Year Award honors for the numbers he put up.
A’s reliever Jake Diekman also was a nominee for selection, but came up short. He too put up a strong campaign, allowing just one earned run in 21 1/3 innings -- good for a 0.42 ERA.
The process for the All MLB team started in early November with half of the vote coming from fans and the other half coming from a panel of experts.
This was the second season the league implemented the All-MLB Team which, according to the MLB.com website, “recognizes and commemorates the top performances by players in the regular season.”
The season prior, it acted as a second-half All-Star selection.
Congratulations to Liam Hendriks. Well deserved.
