Olson ruled out vs. Rays after wild batting practice injury

Matt Olson is a destroyer of baseballs. Apparently, the Athletics first baseman can hit the ball too hard at times, though.

Olson is out of Thursday's lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays after hitting a line drive so hard in batting practice that it ricocheted off the L-screen and hit Olson in the eye.

Dallas Braden has spoken with Olson, and while it sounds like the slugger has quite the shiner, he should be just fine.

Olson was slated to bat fourth and play first base. He will be replaced by Mitch Moreland at first base, who will bat sixth. Catcher Sean Murphy now will bat fourth.

Olson of course is a big loss to Oakland's offense. The powerful lefty is off to a strong start this season, batting .296 with a .943 OPS and six home runs in 22 games.

The A's enter Thursday atop the AL West with a 15-10 record.
