We're a week into December, and while the Athletics are quite the mystery for a handful of reasons, we do know one thing about the franchise right now: They still don't have a manager.
Longtime A's manager Bob Melvin decided to take his talents to San Diego to hold the same position for the Padres at the end of October. The A's, meanwhile, still haven't replaced him.
Melvin, who already has added now former A's bench coach Ryan Christenson to San Diego's staff, hopes that one of his former coaches in Oakland gets the job as A's manager. And his wish could come true.

The Athletic's Britt Ghiroli reported Monday, citing sources, that the A's have interviewed their current third base coach Mark Kotsay for their open managerial job. Ghiroli also reported they have interviewed Boston Red Sox bench coach Will Venable and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro.
Kotsay, 46, joined the A's coaching staff ahead of the 2016 season as a bench coach. In 2017, he was named quality control coach and now serves as their third base coach.

He also had a 17-year MLB career as an outfielder, including four seasons with the A's. While with the A's from 2004 through 2007, Kotsay hit .282 with 38 home runs and a .747 OPS. Over his MLB career, Kotsay hit .276 with 127 homers and a .737 between seven different teams.
The A's and New York Mets are the only two teams without a manager in the major leagues right now.
