Nick Hundley is coming back to the Bay ... kind of.
The 35-year-old catcher signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, the A's announced on Monday:

This means he's in the running to be the starting catcher, along with Josh Phegley and Chris Herrmann -- who are expected to platoon at the position.
A's general manager David Forst spoke about the team's catchers in January, where he even mentioned Beau Taylor having some experience and as well as the young Sean Murphy, who is getting close to making his big league debut. But if it's one thing Hundley doesn't lack, it's the experience -- he has 11 seasons of big league catching under his belt. This makes him a very strong candidate to take over some playing time if it works out.
The organization is not getting a star-studded player behind the dish, but one thing that is intriguing about Hundley is the fact that he always manages to get a job.
He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2005 where he spent the majority of his career. He had short stints with the Baltimore Orioles and the Colorado Rockies before spending the last two seasons as Buster Posey's steady backup on the Giants, where he made his presence known.
