A's star Matt Olson sports mask while playing first base vs. Angels

A's star Matt Olson is taking all precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The slugger was wearing a mask -- albeit one that did not cover his nose -- while playing first base in Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Multiple MLB games were postponed earlier Monday after the Miami Marlins experienced an "outbreak" of cases over the weekend. Olson joined MLB Network before the game, and said he'd likely be wearing a face covering on the field following Monday's news.

"Yeah, we’re just so accustomed to normal baseball life," Olson said. "We try to stay safe out here, obviously the news was big here this morning, and I think it’s something that, being a first baseman, I might go out and start wearing a mask, you know, maybe put one in my pocket if a guy gets on first, throw it on."

The Marlins-Baltimore Orioles game and a contest between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees were postponed as the teams conduct additional COVID-19 testing.

First basemen are more at risk than most players, given that there are so many potential close interactions with opposing hitters throughout the game.
