The three best A's nicknames for MLB Players' Weekend

Share

For the second straight season, there will be a little more color and a lot more flare for one weekend of baseball. MLB Players' Weekend is back starting Aug. 24 through 26.

Some nicknames are as boring as can be while others are flat out hilarious.

Here are the three best A's nicknames on the back of jerseys for MLB Players' Weekend:

1. Tom Ace -- Mark Canha

On social media, Canha is known as @outtadaparkmark or @bigleaguefoodie, both of which are fantastic. They don't even compare to Tom Ace.

Well all righty then, Mark.

2. Capt. Barrel -- Jed Lowrie

Talk that talk, Jed. Lowrie made his first All-Star Game this season and has hit a career-high 17 home runs. The second baseman is hitting just .156 in the second half compared to .285 in the first half, but he still has a hard-contact rate of 40.3 percent this year, which is 0.1 percent off his career high.

Even if Lowrie continues to struggle, Capt. Barrel is such a Get On My Level move.

3. PTBNL -- Josh Phegley

Who cares if Phegley has only played in 19 games this season, he clearly has a great sense of humor. The acronym stands for Player To Be Named Later, or what the A's knew him as when they acquired him from the White Sox in 2014.
