A's trade Billy Burns to Royals for Brett Eibner

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s traded outfielder Billy Burns to the Kansas City Royals for outfielder Brett Eibner, the team announced today. Eibner will report to Triple-A Nashville.

Burns was on the A’s Opening Day roster and batted .234 with 14 stolen bases in 73 games with Oakland. He hit .271 over his first 42 games but was batting just .173 over his last 31 contests.

Burns is tied for eighth in the American League in stolen bases and tied for ninth in triples (4). He was optioned to Nashville July 15 and batted .293 with four stolen bases in 10 games for the Sounds.

Eibner was batting .231 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 26 games over two stints with Kansas City in his Major League debut.

He also batted .288 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI in 50 games with Triple-A Omaha and is a career .280 hitter with 37 home runs and 140 RBI in 227 games over parts of three seasons in Triple-A. The 27-year-old right handed hitter was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2010 draft.
