A's vs. Angels lineups: Khris Davis out again with left hand injury

Share

Khris Davis will miss his second straight game after getting hit by a pitch in the left hand Thursday night in Anaheim.

Davis experienced some swelling on Friday and had trouble gripping a bat. Mark Canha will once again fill in as Oakland's designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot. Chad Pinder will start in left field and hit fifth.

Matt Olson will try to stay red-hot as he bats third in the lineup. The A's first baseman went 3-for-3 on Friday night with two home runs, a single, a walk, and five RBI. He has belted three homers in the first two games of this series.

On the mound, it will be a battle of southpaws, as Brett Anderson starts for the A's against the Angels' Tyler Skaggs. Anderson enters at 7-5 with a 4.26 ERA in 16 starts. The 31-year-old is 3-3 with a 3.19 ERA in 14 career games against the Angels, including 11 starts.

Anderson has enjoyed great success against the Angels' top hitters throughout his career, limiting Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Albert Pujols, Justin Upton, Kole Calhoun, and Andrelton Simmons to a combined .148 batting average (8-for-54).

Skaggs enters Saturday's contest at 7-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 14 starts. He has struggled against the A's, however, going 2-8 with a 5.49 ERA in 12 career outings.
