OAKLAND — With the A's and Yankees opening a three-game series Monday at the Coliseum, Yankees slugger and Linden, California native Aaron Judge got the opportunity to return to Northern California. Judge, 26, has been out since late July with a broken wrist, but he was still happy to be in Oakland.

“I always enjoy coming back to California, especially with this weather right now,” he smiled. “I walked out of the hotel with a nice little jacket on. It was perfect. So I'm glad to be back. I wish I was playing, but I'll still have a lot of family and friends out here.”

Judge attended Linden High School, about 80 miles away from the Coliseum, and played college baseball at Fresno State. He told reporters he has been impressed by the A's incredible run the last few months.

“It's been great to watch,” Judge said. “They've got a great team over there, a great young team. It's going to be a fun couple of days. That's why I wish I was playing. You always love playing a great team like the A's. It's going to be some good competition.”

That good competition could continue in October, and in the Bronx or the East Bay. As of this writing, the Yankees and A's hold both Wild Card spots in the American League, and Oakland trailed New York by 4 1/2 games entering Monday.
