Warriors Gaming Squad to hold NBA 2K tournament for AAU basketball teams

Prior to the coronavirus, the summertime was when youth sports organizations, such as AAU, ramped up to give kids a place to compete and grow during their time off from school. Most of those leagues and organizations won't be happening this summer, but the Golden State Warriors and Warriors Gaming Squad are doing what they can to fill that void.

Warriors Gaming Squad announced on Friday an NBA2K tournament for AAU basketball teams who are unable to compete due to the coronavirus.

The Bay Area Showdown gives AAU teams a chance to compete against each other on the virtual hardwood for prizes such as Warriors Gaming Squad swag, money for their team and a 30-minute private training session with the Warriors Basketball Academy.

In a time when much of our normal lives have changed, it's innovation and creativity that can help get us through it.

Warriors Gaming Squad clinch playoff spot after Tuesday's win vs. T-Wolves

Warriors Gaming Squad clinched their second-straight playoff appearance Tuesday after a 2-0 series sweep against T-Wolves Gaming.

WGS is one of just four teams to have already clinched a playoff spot with a week and a half still remaining on the regular-season schedule. After a hot 6-0 start to the season, the Warriors have kept stride and currently sit at 11-3.

Just like CB13 has done all season -- he leads the team in points (31.3) and assists (8.1) per game -- the Warriors point guard led the way in the playoff-clinching series against the T-Wolves.

CB13's consistent play and ability to score in bunches has put him in the conversation for the NBA 2K League's MVP award.

Warriors Gaming Squad didn't make it to this position because of just one player, which can often be the case, but CB13 is surrounded by talent who consistently steps up when called upon. Whether it's BSmoove providing the secondary scoring when the team needs it most, or Gradient working on both ends of the court, WGS has proven to be a complete team.

Slaughter, the 2020 first-round pick of the Warriors, has locked down the center position and is putting up outstanding numbers while doing so. He's currently averaging a double-double for the season, with 11.7 points and 14.4 rebounds per game.

Warriors Gaming Squad still has two matchups left in the regular season. They have the potential to climb the standings with the two teams currently ahead of them, holding the same amount of wins with just one fewer loss. Realistically, the highest seed WGS could earn would be the No. 2 spot. Raptors Uprising GC has been locked into first place from the jump, sitting at a perfect 13-0 record.

The remaining couple of matchups this season will be a good tune-up for the Warriors as they get ready to make a run at their first NBA 2K League Championship.

BSmoove, Warriors Gaming Squad light it up from deep, earn sweep vs. Bucks

A big night from BSmoove helped keep Warriors Gaming Squad (10-3) on the winning track against Bucks Gaming (6-6) on Wednesday. The sweep was the fourth consective series win for the Warriors, good enough to land them in fourth place in the league standings.

BSmoove balled out with 12 three-pointers made in the series while shooting a ridiculous 93 percent from beyond the arc. The Bucks didn't have an answer for the Warriors shooting guard, who seemed to be draining shots at will. His performance in both games earned himself the series MVP.

After a back and forth Game 1, which ended in a 74-73 win for WGS despite connection issues and a game restart, BSmoove and the Warriors offense turned up the heat in Game 2.

BSmoove's hot shooting must've been contagious, because everyone on the Warriors hit from deep as they cruised to a 79-53 blowout win. The Bucks defense is going to be seeing greens in their nightmares after how often Warriors shooters hit green from deep on Wednesday.

The backcourt duo of CB13 and BSmoove have proved to be a problem for defenses in the NBA 2K League. CB13, the team's leading scorer and a league MVP candidate, has been providing a majority of the scoring for the Warriors this season. However, when both CB13 and BSmoove are filling up at the same time, Warriors Gaming Squad becomes almost impossible to beat.

WGS will face Celtics Crossover Gaming (1-11) in their next regular-season matchup but will have to wait until July 30 with THE TURN tournament taking place next week.
