Share

This year’s Fourth of July weekend will be an exciting one for sports fans, and not just because of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. As the NHL and NBA playoffs head into their final stretches, many MLB teams will push to finish strong heading into the All Star break.

One of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, Wimbledon, will continue over the weekend. NASCAR will be featured at Road America in Elkhart Lake over the holiday. Fans of golf will have a couple of events to watch: the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2021 teed off on July 1 and “The Match,” featuring Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady against Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers, is on July 6.

This is your sports watching guide for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Here’s how to watch the Oakland A’s games this weekend:

The Oakland A’s welcome the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox to town this weekend, with Frankie Montas on the mound against Eduardo Rodriguez Friday night to kick off the series. Oakland took two of three from Boston at Fenway Park back in May. Trailing the first-place Houston Astros by just 1.5 games entering Friday’s action, the A’s look to continue to chase down their division rivals.

Here’s how to watch the San Francisco Giants’ games this weekend:

After losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, the NL-best San Francisco Giants have three more games against the ballclub with MLB’s worst record this weekend. Alex Wood takes the mound against Zac Gallen Friday night as the Giants try to build upon their NL West lead. The Giants enter action Friday holding a half-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers and a 2.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres. Following this four-game set against the D-backs, the Giants will return to San Francisco for a six-game homestand starting Monday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Hawks were without Trae Young, who missed Game 5 because of a bone bruise in his foot. With the stars sidelined, it was Brook Lopez who shined with 33 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Four Milwaukee starters scored more than 20 points, putting the team within one victory of a matchup with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals.
