Trail blazers Nakken, Ng meet before Giants-Marlins series

This week, MLB celebrates the impact civil rights icon Jackie Robinson left on the game. He broke the color barrier in 1947, becoming the first Black man to play in a big league game.Ā

The celebration continued on Friday when Giants assistant coach Alyssa Nakken and Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng posed with one another at LoanDepot Park before the two teams began a three-game series.

Nakken made history by becoming the first female coach in MLB history, and the first woman ever to coach on the field in a big-league game when she coached first base last season.

Her Opening Day uniform now hangs in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Ngā€™s journey is just as noteworthy and historic.

She became the first female GM in MLB history in November and became the highest-ranking woman in baseball operations across all 30 teams. SheĀ also is the first Asian American GM in baseball history.

Ng had been up for the San Diego Padresā€™ GM position in the past, but did not receive an offer. A similar scenario happened when she interviewed for the Giantsā€™ president of baseball operations jobĀ before Farhan Zaidi was hired.

The Marlinsā€™ Instagram account also posted a photo of the two trailblazing women ā€¦ in front of the No. 42 sign on the big screen.
