Crawford's defensive wizardry results in ‘MVP' chants

Whatever Brandon Crawford is drinking, we would like some, please.

During the ninth inning of a 1-1 game on Tuesday against the New York Mets, the Giants' shortstop made a diving catch on a Dominic Smith groundball and flipped it with his glove to Kris Bryant for the force out at second base.

Naturally, the play was followed by fans at Oracle Park shouting “MVP!” over and over again:

The chants are deserved too.

"He should be right in the conversation," Giants manager Gabe Kapler told reporters on Monday night. "He's just been good on both sides of the ball all year long. Very consistent, very dependable, driving the ball, extra bases, singles, big moments -- he's come up huge for us time and time again.”

Kapler, of course, was biased, but the numbers also back that up.

His seven defensive runs saved this season are tied for most among NL shortstops, and his batting numbers are just as impressive.

The 34-year-old currently is batting .300/.364/.436 with 19 home runs and 70 home runs in 390 plate appearances.

No wonder the team just committed two additional seasons to the three-time All-Star.
