Buster Posey was one of the best catchers in the history of collegiate baseball, and now he'll be immortalized as such.

Posey starred at Florida State from 2006-2008, winning the Johnny Bench National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award in 2008 when he hit .463 with 25 home runs and 93 RBI.

On Tuesday, the award Posey won 11 years ago officially was renamed after the San Francisco Giants backstop.

Posey was drafted by the Giants with the fifth overall pick in 2008 and has lived up to the lofty expectations he exited Tallahassee with.

In 10-plus seasons with the Giants, Posey has hit .305 with 133 home runs and 635 RBIs. He is a six-time All-Star and won the 2012 National League MVP Award.

What we're trying to say is, it's an honor that's long overdue.
