Welcome back: Posey homers in first AB since IL stint

Buster Posey showed no signs of rust in his first game back from the Injured List.

The All-Star catcher returned to the Giants' lineup Monday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers and promptly crushed a two-run homer in his first at-bat against Tony Gonsolin at Chavez Ravine.

Posey, out since July 4 with a thumb injury, hit that homer 371 feet to left field.

Not to be outdone, Wilmer Flores went back-to-back with Posey, hitting a 423-foot solo homer to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, Max Muncy and Justin Turner hit back-to-back homers off Giants starter Kevin Gausman. Per Giants PR, this is the first time in the history of the rivalry that both teams have gone back-to-back in the first inning of a game.

Posey rejoined the Giants' lineup at the perfect time. The offense went cold during the final two games in St. Louis over the weekend, scoring a total of two runs in two losses on Saturday and Sunday. With one swing of the bat, Posey equaled that total.

The 34-year-old now has 13 homers this season, 11 off his career-high of 24 in 2012, his MVP season. With the way he has been hitting this season, it's not out of the question for Posey to match or surpass that mark.
