BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON D.C. — Every 20 minutes or so on Saturday afternoon, the crowd at Nationals Park would start cheering in the middle of a seemingly insignificant moment on the field. The Washington Capitals were at the ballpark, and well-hydrated champions took turns lifting the Stanley Cup in a suite down the left field line.

Giants pitchers made sure the fans had plenty of baseball action to cheer for, too.

Dereck Rodriguez got rocked in his second career start and the Giants lost 7-5. They’ve split the first two games of this road trip, and they get Max Scherzer on Sunday. Here are the details …

—- In his second career start, Rodriguez had no command and very nearly got knocked out in the second. He ended up giving up five earned in 2 2/3 innings, with six hits, three walks and two strikeouts mixed in. Rodriguez threw 60 pitches in the first two innings.

—- Gio Gonzalez wasn’t much better on the other side. Gonzalez came in with a 2.27 ERA but gave up four earned on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked four. Nick Hundley had the big blow, a three-run shot with two outs and two strikes in the third.

—- Hundley had an RBI double in the seventh, giving him 20 RBI on the season. He’s the sixth Giant to reach 20.

—- The Giants got within a run in the seventh, but Cory Gearin gave up a run in the bottom of the inning. He has allowed a run in three consecutive appearances, and has a 5.11 ERA.

—- Every Giants position player reached base in the first four innings. This is no fluke; it’s a really good lineup right now.
