The Giants won't be facing Clayton Kershaw to start the 2020 MLB season after all.

The Dodgers placed the ace on the injured list Thursday with back stiffness, meaning he won't be on the bump against the Giants for Opening Night in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles will be recalling Dustin May to the active roster and starting him in place of Kershaw. May pitched in 14 games last season with four starts, going 2-3 with a 3.63 ERA for L.A.

Kershaw had started 10 Opening Days in a row for the Dodgers prior to last season, when he also missed 2019's season debut with inflammation in his throwing shoulder.

May made two relief appearances against the Giants in 2019, throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. The 22-year-old is a full 12 years younger than his opposing starter for Opening Night in Johnny Cueto.

Thursday night's game will get underway at 7:08 p.m. PT from Dodger Stadium.
