No one could believe it. Not the Giants, not the Los Angeles Dodgers and not Gavin Lux.
When Lux crushed a ball to left center field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 3 of the National League Division Series, everyone at Dodger Stadium and watching at home thought Lux had just tied the game with a solo home run. But the wind had been whipping all night in Southern California.
Lux's blast hit a wall of wind it couldn't get through, and the ball fell harmlessly into the glove of Steven Duggar and the Giants won 1-0 to take a two-game-to-one series lead.

After the game, both the Giants and Dodgers were in disbelief that the ball didn't leave the yard, and one stat shows just how unlikely it was for Lux to hit a ball that hard, at that angle and have it not result in a trip around the bases.

While Lux became an instant meme after watching his home run die at the warning track, Giants rookie Camilo Doval knew Lux smashed it right into the teeth of the wind.

"I didn't think it was going to be a home run because of the wind," Doval, who recorded a six-out save to secure the Game 3 win, told reporters after the game. "When I saw the ball going that way, I thought the wind was going to knock it down."
On almost any other night, Lux would have bashed his way into Dodgers postseason lore, sending the game to extra innings with most of the Giants' top relievers having already been used.
But the wind knocked it down, turning Lux into Twitter's newest meme and sending the Dodgers to the brink of elimination.
The Giants and Dodgers will play Game 4 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
