Giants-A's Battle of the Bay rivalry manifests on ‘Jeopardy!'

Two of the three contestants on Monday night's episode of the popular game show "Jeopardy!" were Bay Area residents, with each taking different sides of the Battle of the Bay rivalry between the Giants and A's.

Natalie Tyson, who lives in Walnut Creek per her introduction, discussed being a big A's fan and getting an opportunity to ride around on the field with Stomper at a game.

"He can't talk, but I feel like we really formed a strong friendship that day, so Stomper hopefully if you're watching this, you felt the same way," Tyson told guest host Mike Richards.

Richards then introduced the returning champion, Sam Stapleton, who hails from Los Gatos and spoke about being an avid Giants fan. Stapleton believes the Giants are his "good luck charm" as he aligned three major live events with the franchise's three World Series titles in 2010, '12 and '14.

"2010, my wife and I bought our first house and they won the World Series. 2012, my son Andrew is born, they won the World Series. 2014, my daughter Gracie is born, won the World  Series. So 2021, getting on 'Jeopardy!', it's their year again," Stapleton said.

Tyson didn't love that answer and wagged her finger at the thought of another World Series trophy finding its way to San Francisco.

Stapleton and his fellow Bay Area contestant likely will be locked in for the next edition of the Battle of the Bay, which will come at the tail end of Spring Training, with back-to-back games set for March 28 and 29 in Arizona.
