Giants' Belt finally reaches elusive 20-homer milestone

Share

At long last, Brandon Belt is a 20-homer hitter.

Ever since making his debut in 2011, Belt has been one of the Giants' biggest power threats. The only thing standing in his way from consistently hitting 20-plus home runs has been a slew of nagging injuries over the years.

He finally reached the elusive mark Tuesday night.

Belt has totaled nine, seven, 17, 12, 18, 17, 18, 14, 17, nine and now 20 home runs in each of his 11 seasons in the big leagues.

In 2018, Belt sustained a hyperextended right knee and had an appendectomy. In 2019, he missed time due to an illness. In 2020, he sustained an Achilles injury, and this year he has battled through side, oblique and knee injuries.

If healthy throughout most of his career, Belt likely would have been the Giants' leading home run hitter many times.

Finally reaching 20 home runs for the first time in his career, Belt hasn't shown any signs of slowing down this season.
