When Brandon Crawford, Joc Pederson and Logan Webb take the field this afternoon, they'll become the first trio of Bay Area natives to start for the Giants since Oakland's Von Joshua, San Francisco's Ken Reitz and Alameda's Chris Speier in 1976.
It'll be a long-awaited moment for Pederson, who grew up on the Peninsula and starred at Palo Alto High, and Webb, who was born in Mountain View before moving to Rocklin. For Crawford, also born in Mountain View, it'll be a very, very, very familiar feeling.
Crawford is starting his 11th straight opener today and Brandon Belt is starting his 11th in 12 years. The Brandons have tied Robby Thompson for the fourth-most Opening Day starts by a Giant. The only players with more are Willie Mays (15), Willie McCovey (15) and Barry Bonds.

Crawford is extending his record for most consecutive Opening Day starts by a San Francisco Giants shortstop. He has the longest current active streak among MLB shortstops and is tied with Thompson for the third-longest streak of consecutive openers in franchise history, behind only Mays and Bonds.

An injury kept Belt out of the lineup at the start of the 2020 season, but he has otherwise started every opener since 2011 when Bruce Bochy memorably asked him if he wanted a beer after he made the roster with a huge spring. His 11 Opening Day starts are the second-most by a Giants first baseman, trailing only McCovey, who made 13 at first and two in left field.
On the other side, this will be the first Opening Day start for Webb. At 25 years, 141 days, he is the youngest Giants Opening Day starter since a 24-year-old Madison Bumgarner in 2014.
