Anthony DeSclafani and the Giants ran into plenty of trouble in the third inning Wednesday night, but it's a second-inning play that has the Giants more concerned at the moment.

Buster Posey took a foul tip off the mask during A.J. Pollock's first at-bat of the night and later came out of the game. The Giants did not immediately announce an injury, but the move appeared to be related to the foul tip.

Posey stayed in to finish that inning and catch the third, but when his spot came up in the order in the bottom of the third, Curt Casali went to the on-deck circle. Casali didn't end up hitting, but he replaced Posey behind the plate in the top of the fourth.

Posey didn't appear bothered as he was behind the plate, but he always has been extremely careful with any injuries or potential injuries to the head. He has twice gone on the IL for concussions during his career, the last one coming in 2019.

Posey took a foul tip off his thumb earlier this month and missed about two weeks. This was his eighth start since coming back, and he has played well. He was 8-for-26 with a homer and two doubles in those games.
