Giants DFA veteran catcher Erik Kratz after rough start to 2019 season

The Giants continue to move players in and out of their clubhouse.

The revolving door didn't stop Monday, even though the Giants had the day off. The Orange and Black designated struggling catcher Erik Kratz for assignment and have not yet announced a corresponding move. The DFA is the Giants' 22nd major-league roster move in May.

Kratz, who was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in March, was hitting .125 and had struggled defensively.

The 38-year-old was acquired to be insurance in case Buster Posey was unable to go at full speed to begin the season. The emergence of Stephen Vogt as a backup catcher made Kratz's DFA a matter of when, and not if.

The Giants have yet to announce a corresponding roster move.
