Giants, A's duel in 2015 Battle of the Bay
A's leadoff man Billy Burns suffered a testicular contusion in Friday’s game when he hit a foul ball that bounced up and struck him. He said he still had some soreness, but both he and manager Bob Melvin expect that he’ll return to the starting lineup Sunday.
Giants starter Jake Peavy has pitched into the seventh inning in each of his four starts since returning from back and hip injuries, and he has a 3.50 ERA during that span. He gave up three runs Friday in six-plus innings.
Pence sparks Giants offense
Eight Giants starters had a hit Friday. Seven of nine starters scored a run. And it was led by outfielder Hunter Pence, who had a four-hit night and drove in a run with an early double. The Giants won 9-3 to take Game 1 of the Bay Bridge Series.
Zobrist stays hot
After homering Friday, Ben Zobrist singled, tripled and doubled off Giants All-Star lefty Madison Bumgarner in Saturday’s 2-1 A’s loss, finishing just a homer shy of the cycle.
Bumgarner leads the way
Madison Bumgarner gave up one run over seven innings and scored one himself, crushing a solo homer that was the first run in a 2-1 Giants win. The Giants have taken the first two games of this series and 10 of their last 11.
