SAN FRANCISCO — Joc Pederson came inches away from robbing a homer and saving two runs for Alex Wood in the Giants' 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night at Oracle Park, but Pederson knew something wasn’t quite right as soon as he hit the wall. A day later, he was put on the 7-day concussion IL.
The Giants had hoped Pederson would be fine Friday, but he still had a headache in the morning and was diagnosed with a concussion. Infielder Jason Vosler was recalled from Triple-A to take the roster spot. Pederson said this is his second concussion.

“Right when I ran into the wall my head instantly started hurting and I kind of got a headache,” Pederson said. “I kind of knew something was up that wasn’t great.”
Trainer Dave Groeschner pulled Pederson when he came back to the dugout after the inning ended. The concussion will keep Pederson out for the rest of this weekend series against the Chicago Cubs as well as next week’s series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Pederson said his only previous concussion came when he had a collision with Yasiel Puig in the outfield in 2017. That one also left Pederson with an injured shoulder.

With Pederson out, LaMonte Wade Jr. will start in left field Friday. Vosler will play third base.
