Johnny Cueto's second straight brilliant start was cut short by an injury in the sixth inning. The Giants announced Cueto had a "tight lat" and is being examined.
Cueto needed just 68 pitches to get nearly all the way through the sixth, but on his final one -- a 93 mph fastball to strike out Nicholas Castellanos -- he immediately signaled that he had to come out of the game. Cueto grimaced after throwing the pitch and trainer Dave Groeschner came out from the dugout and pulled Cueto from the game.
If there's any good news here, it's that Cueto didn't appear to hurt his arm, which was surgically-repaired in 2018. He angrily flipped a ball into his glove with his pitching arm as he left the field.

An inning earlier, Cueto had gone all-out to try and beat out a bunt in front of the plate. He had a sprint speed of 28.6 feet per second, the fifth-fastest by any Giant this season.

Five days after throwing 118 pitches in a dominant performance against the Rockies, Cueto was blanking the league's highest-scoring offense. In 5 2/3 innings, he allowed just three hits, walked none and struck out four.
If he needs to miss any time, the Giants can slide Logan Webb back into the rotation. They were set to move Webb to their bullpen with Alex Wood returning this weekend.
