Giants' Gausman does himself favor with slick RBI vs. Rockies

Kevin Gausman was his own best friend Monday.

After limiting the Rockies to just one run over the first three innings of the Giants' series opener in Colorado at Coors Field, Gausman came to the plate in the top of the fourth with runners on first and second and no outs.

On the first pitch from Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, Gausman attempted to bunt the runners over, but it went foul. On the second pitch, Gausman showed bunt, but then pulled it back as it was delivered, taking a ball to even the count.

But on the third pitch, Gausman bluffed bunt again and slashed it down the third base line just inside the bag for an RBI single.

Gausman's RBI bumped his season batting average up to .209 and increased San Francisco's lead to 4-1. It was the Giants' first hit of the game with runners in scoring position, as the first three runs were all scored on solo home runs.

Gausman now has nine hits on the season. All other Giants pitchers have combined for eight.
