Giants manager Gabe Kapler once peeled the skin off chicken nuggets

Giants manager Gabe Kapler is pretty health-conscious -- he's always been that way. Even before his major-league playing days back in college.

Before he went to Cal State Fullerton, he was a junior college player at Moorpark College. Despite the stereotype of ramen noodles and PB&J sandwiches being associated with starting out in the adult world, Kapler was mindful of what he put in his body.

Perhaps too mindful.

In a Mercury News article, Kapler's meticulous nutritional ways were displayed when it was mentioned he once peeled the skin off of 40 Chicken McNuggets when he forgot to pack his usual tuna-on-rye sandwich.

And the players around him noticed.

"I think it affected the players around him,” Kapler's former coach Mario Porto told The Mercury News.

Nevertheless, Moorpark was where Kapler realized he would be in baseball for the rest of his life, on top of discovering the nutrition class that would teach him the importance of eating right.

This isn't the first snack story we've heard from the former big-league outfielder. He smiled when he began talking about food with our own Alex Pavlovic and set the record straight on a situation with ice cream.

A former player of his, Jon Still, told the tale of Kapler eating ice cream. Well, he didn't exactly eat it as much as he would lick it for taste and spit it out in a cup.

Still called it "Unabomber type stuff."

Luckily for Kapler, he finds himself in a city that is known for having an amazing food scene.
