Sammy Long got the start for the Giants and essentially was used as an opener, though he went two innings. He allowed two hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out four. The one run was a solo homer by C.J. Cron in the second inning.
The Giants tied the game in the bottom of the second when Donovan Solano knocked in Longoria with a single to center.
Zack Littell pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Long, but Dominic Leone gave up two runs in the top of the sixth. The Rockies added another run in the eighth to take a 4-1 lead and that's all they needed.
Rockies starter Kyle Freeland went six strong innings, and Jhoulys Chacin and Daniel Bard combined for three shutout innings to close the door on the Giants' six-game winning streak.

The loss to the lowly Rockies was costly for the Giants in the NL West race, as the Los Angeles Dodgers picked up a game in the standings after beating the New York Mets 2-1 at Citi Field earlier on Saturday. San Francisco's division lead now stands at four games heading into Sunday's series finale with Colorado.
