Giants offer credits, refunds to fans with tickets for April, May games

The city of San Francisco seems to be getting closer to re-opening, but there will be no baseball games played at Oracle Park anytime soon. On Wednesday, the Giants took care of ticket holders who had planned to attend games in April or May.

The Giants laid out two options in a letter sent to ticket holders. Single-game holders can receive a full refund and season ticket-holders can get a refund for games that already have been impacted. The Giants are also offering incentives for fans who prefer to take a credit.

Fans who are season-ticket holders or have suite, group and premium tickets can take an account credit with a 5 percent "bonus based on the face value for any impacted games towards their 2021 season renewal." Those fans can also use credits toward 2020 purchases. Fans who have single-game tickets can opt to get a credit for 2021 tickets at "exclusive preferred pricing levels."

Thus far, the Giants have only offered these plans for the first two months of the season because San Francisco's shelter in place order goes only through May 31. The Giants also announced that they would provide updates as more information becomes available. It's likely that they soon will have to offer the same refunds and credits to fans who had purchased games further along in the season.

While there is increased optimism in league circles, MLB is unlikely to return until late June at the very earliest. When baseball does resume, there's a strong chance that 2020 games will be played without fans.
